BP Handle B-4 – Scalpel Handle No. 4L (Long)
The B Martin BP Handle B-4 is the No. 4L — the Long version of the standard No. 4 scalpel handle. It combines the large-blade capacity of the No. 4 with an extended shaft, giving the surgeon the reach and leverage needed for deep incisions with heavy blades. This is the handle of choice for bariatric general surgery, deep abdominal and thoracic work, large-animal veterinary surgery, and any procedure where a #22 or #23 blade must cut at depth.
Manufactured from surgical-grade stainless steel and satin-finished for a non-reflective surface, the B-4 carries the same diagonally-patterned knurled grip panel as its No. 3L sibling — a significant ergonomic upgrade that reduces slip and hand fatigue during long or forceful cuts. The extended shaft lets the surgeon work inside deep cavities while keeping the wrist and hand outside the wound, which improves visibility, control, and overall ergonomics. The blade-fitting slot is identical to the standard No. 4 and accepts the full #20-series: #20, #21, #22, #23, #24, #25 and #36. No change in blade inventory is needed when switching from a short No. 4 to the No. 4L. Like every B Martin handle, the No. 4L is individually inspected, laser-marked, and supplied ready for the autoclave.
