The B Martin Broken Screw Removal Set (BBSR-101) provides a systematic, step-by-step solution for one of the most challenging situations in orthopaedic revision surgery — the extraction of fractured, stripped, or locked screws from bone. The set covers both the 3.5mm (small fragment) and 4.5mm (large fragment) screw systems, making it the single instrument set required for revision of both small and large bone fracture fixation.
The removal workflow begins with a countersink Q.C. to prepare the tissue around the broken screw, followed by the hollow mill — a precision cylindrical cutter that surrounds the screw shaft and cuts away bone to expose the top of the buried fragment. Once exposed, the screw reverse extractor (available in 2.7mm, 3.5mm, and 4.5mm) is inserted into the broken screw shaft and turned anticlockwise to grip and unscrew the fragment. The screw holding clip forcep and ratchet-lock removal forcep provide additional mechanical grip for screws that cannot be reversed out by the extractor alone. A gouge with fibre handle completes bone clearance, and HSS drill bits handle any overdrilling required. All instruments are supplied in a precision-fitted aluminium instrument box for organised storage and autoclaving.
